Vehicle Activated Signs in Burneston
Two Vehicle Activated Signs have been purchased by the Parish Council with assisted funding from North Yorkshire Council Locality Budget.
One sign is located on Church Wynd and the other is on the Burneston to Bedale Road.
The following data, recorded by these signs, is for traffic entering the village and runs between the dates of 1 October 2024 to 31 October 2024.
Taking into account the Report being for one month period the amount of traffic recorded, at around 41,000, is a substantial amount of traffic entering and leaving the village.
On the Burneston to Bedale Road the VAS picks up any vehicle entering the village just after the 30mph sign. The VAS can be turned around to register vehicles leaving the village and the system records the vehicles as they come round the small bend outside the school.
On Church Wynd the VAS picks up traffic movement just before the 30mph sign. If the VAS sign is facing in the other direction movement is picked up just over the brow of the hill.
The majority of drivers are obeying the speed limit but help is required to stop the minority who speed. I think you will agree some of the speeds shown are very concerning. The collated data, for both directions, is regularly shared with the Highways Agency and the Police to highlight the traffic issues in Burneston Village.
An explanation of the bar chart attached is as follows:
All the columns actually go up to 4mph above the bar displayed speed before switching to the next speed bracket. So, for instance, the bar for 35mph, vehicles in that bracket are actually doing speeds between 35 and 39mph.
